ABOUT PEER 2 PEER
RGH believes in a peer model that matches veteran's needs. Our Peer2Peer program is much like the military 'buddy' system. We match veterans with trained peers for peer mentoring. Peers are encouraged to do activities together to promote socialization. Activities such as: hiking, kayaking, biking, art therapy, dog therapy/training, dining out, visit museums.
RGH events are always a option as well.

Mentors are put through a screening process and training before being matched with a peer. Training to include suicide prevention, boundaries, ethics, confidentiality, and much more. All skills to better equipped them with issues that may arise while hanging with their peer. The training does not qualify mentors to provide service but trains them how to refer to existing providers. Our organized model aims to change isolation and suicide rates of our veterans by providing socialization and community support through peer engagement and events.
The responsibilities of a RGH Peer 2 Peer mentor include:
To act as an ally and friend and to support fellow veterans to feel a sense of community
To help improve quality of their everyday lives
Shared experience, language, and military culture
Share veteran resources
If you see something, say something (report)
Mindful listener; Active Listening
Empathetic; Supportive, tolerant, accepting
Nurturing; friend, advocate
Trustworthy; dependable
Observant; sense mood changes
Respectful; boundaries, individual differences
